The 23 team finds speed, breaks out for the best finish of the year, 7th.

-Farrington, however was disappointed with the top 10 finish

8/16/10

After struggling for a good part of the year in the LMS division at Oxford Plains Speedway, Dave Farrington, Jr. found some speed in the last round of practice and was 6th fastest on the speed charts.  The Atlantic Contracting & Specialties Impala SS continued to gain speed in the heat race coming from fourth to second in the 10 lap sprint.  In the feature, Farrington started fourth and was up to second on lap 4.  Farrington continued to gain ground on current race leader Shawn Knight but could not find a way around him and slipped back to fourth as TJ Brackett and Shawn Martin got by.  Just after halfway, Farrington got around Knight and found himself running in third and knocking on the door of the two leaders.  Several cautions including two red flags slowed the field and bunched everyone back up.  On a lap 32 restart, Farrington lined up 3rd once again but a costly mistake of missing a shift dropped Farrington from 3rd to 11th by the time he got up to speed again.  Farrington was able to recover from the mistake and worked his way back into seventh when the checkered flag dropped.  Later that night Farrington figured out that he was the fastest car in the race.  "It's disappointing to not win the race being the fastest car in the race but the old saying remains true that the fastest car does not always win.  Unfortunately we were that driver who was the fastest but didn't end up carrying the checkered flag at the end."
It was also determined on monday back at the shop that the drivers side header had blasted out a 3-4" diameter hole which would rob horsepower and explained the rattling and sour sounding engine Farrington had described.  "It started around lap six in the heat race.  It started to sound abnormal.  The motor was still pulling down the straightaway and we seemed to be catching the race leader and pulling away from the third place car but the engine just did not sound right."  The problem never went away in the feature either as the motor still had the same distinctful sound.  It certainly robbed some horsepower away from the motor but somehow despite the hole in the header Farrington was still the quickest car in the feature.  "I'm sure we'll get that hole in the header fixed and solve our motor problems.  We got the car hooked up and running well.  We don't need any other problems to slow us down.  Its been a long year.  One win will certainly take some of the disappointment away from this year." Farrington stated.  There are three points races left in the 2010 Oxford Plains Speedway season.  Farrington is still hoping for a top 10 finish in points.  With three top 5 finishes that is certainly a good possibility.

Farrington will be back at Oxford August 21st and August 28th

-11/04/09

Dave Farrington, Jr. Motorsports arrived at LEE saturday morning to the sight of dark clouds and a wet racetrack.  Saturdays practice and qualifying was a complete washout which lead to a blind draw to determine starting postions for the 50 lap main event.  Farrington wound up starting 13th on the 28 car starting grid.  The team would only get one chance to hit the setup right because they were faced with no practice.  The first laps Farrington would turn on the 3/8 mile oval would be the 5 hot laps before the feature.  When the green flag dropped Dave quickly moved up into the top 10 within five laps.  Several cautions would eliminate any potential long green flag run which could have allowed Farrington to move up.  Dave ran right around the 8th position throughout the race and then on the last restart of the race, Farrington surged into the top 5 and remained there for the rest of the race.  Farrington's 5th place run placed him as the highest finishing non-regular driver and also the highest finishing driver from Maine in the 50 lap Late Model race.  "If we could have one round of practice, or maybe even a heat race, we could have dialed the car in better for the race, instead of having a blind attempt at getting it right," Farrington stated.  "We definitely could have made a run for the top 3 and even a chance to win if we could have got a few practice laps before the race.  Anyone would tell you its gotta be tough to go straight into the feature without any laps on the track at all."  This was Dave's second appearance at Lee Usa Speedway, and he posted a much better finish this time in the Oktoberfest.  He redeemed himself well after being wrecked out of the Pro All Stars Series race at Lee back in July.

The Long John 100 at Unity Raceway brought more challenges to Dave Farrington, Jr. Motorsports, but resulted in another respectable finish.  After struggling in the heat race, only getting one practice prior to it, Farrington would have to start 21st in a 26 car field.  Farrington rode around and stayed out of trouble for the first 20 laps.  He made his way up to 11th and then pitted.  Around lap 40, Farrington was forced to pit again for more adjustments.   Also around lap 40, something had come loose from the #1 Late Model and began dragging on the track.  It was most noticable under caution but it never went away.  The handling on the car got better after the adjustments.  Near the end of the race, things began to heat up towards the front of the pack and an accident would lead to a final restart with only a handful of laps left. Farrington would surge up through and he hung on for a 6th place finish at the end.  "The sway bar was what was dragging," Farrington said.  "After the race we looked under the hood and the sway bar was right on the ground.  That was broke for a good 35 laps or more."  "The car may have handled alot better if our sway bar had held together," Farrington continued.  Despite the broken sway bar, Farrington still accepted the 6th place finish at "The toughest oval in Maine"  his first ever appearance at the track.

Dave Farrington, Jr. to make debut in a Late Model
-8/4/09

Dave Farrington, Jr. will be doing double duty this coming weekend at Wiscasset.  Dave has come to agreements with Bernie Allen and his wife to drive his #1 Late Model.  Farrington will continue to compete in the Pro Stock division as well.  "I have seen the car go around the track, and it was always in contention to win from my perspective," Dave stated.  "I went up to look at the car earlier this week, and everything looked good.  I'm really excited to be finally driving a Late Model."  Dave also continued to say, "I am not real worried about the feeling of the car, I believe there will not be a significant difference between a Pro Stock and a Late Model.  Racing two cars the same night though, you have to take all your notes and feel of one car and keep it with that car, and do the same with the other car.  You cannot mix notes and feel of the car between the Late Model and Pro Stock."  Farrington and Allen have high hopes for this coming weekend and in the near future.  They are still uncertain of whether Farrington will race in the LMS portion of the Center of Speed 300 next weekend at Wiscasset.  Farrington is already entered and begun to prepare for the Pro Stock 150 next weekend.  Farrington has 5 top 5's this year, with a 2nd place finish dating back to June 20th.  Racing beings at 5pm.

Dave Farrington, Jr. finally comes through with a 2nd place finish:

6/20/09-
Dave Farrington, Jr. drove his #23 Fourth Generation Logging and Firewood, Captured Memories, Alpinestars, Chevy into victory lane saturday night at Wiscasset Raceway.  Dave started fourth on the grid and was shuffed back to sixth at the start of the 35 lap Super Late Model race.  The top three cars pulled away when Scott King and Chuck Colby got together in turn 1 but there was no caution.  Farrington lost ground but moved by King quickly and was steadily chasing down Colby and the top 3.  By lap 25, the top 5 cars were nose to tail.  On lap 31 the front runners wrecked and Farrington came out unscaved.  Dave was placed 2nd in the lineup after the caution, and the lengthy delay that took to clean the track caused misty rain to fall from the sky. The race was called after 31 laps and resulting in a second place finish for Dave Farrington, Jr. Dave wanted to give a special thank you to all of his crew for all their hard work and dedication.

Dave's next race will be the Pro All Stars Series 150 at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway on Friday June 26th.
